Huge congratulations to our amazing Lionesses who finally brought it 'Home' at Wembley last night, making an entire nation proud and inspiring a new generation of footballers.
When Harpenden Rovers Youth FC was founded in 2018 we had a very popular under 9's girls side, with 20 plus girls turning up on a regular basis to train and play. The girls were incredibly successful locally and regularly played matches against St Albans City Youth and Colts, alas as the girls moved onto senior school the side eventually folded.
However a several of the original members of this side are still playing regularly for their schools and representing district and county sides, while we have former players in both Watford FC and Luton Town FC Women's academies. Rovers are very proud of the very small influence we played in girls football in the area.
While our younger age groups are already mixed and there are a couple of very good Girls sections down the road at Colts and St Albans City we're checking if there is demand locally to resurrect the girls teams at Rovers in the future?
With that in mind we're planning on setting up some girls training sessions at KWS in September after school, we'll run two girls age groups aged 6-8 years and 9 -11 years. Exact timings TBC
